The Atherton Trust

The late Mr Samuel Atherton, many years ago, lived at Nobold House, Nobold, Shrewsbury. He was a colliery proprietor. He died in 1933. His estate was left in trust for his family until his last surviving daughter died in 1981.

It was at ths time that The Atherton Trust was created.

Mr. Atherton had directed in his will that the Trust should operate for the benefit of the residents in the parishes of Pontesbury and Hanwood and the village areas of Annscroft and Hook-a-Gate. These areas are now known by different names but, to all intents and purposes, the area covered remains the same.

Grants are made to deserving causes, either individuals or organisations in the designated area. Over the period of the Trust, there have been over 230 applications, resulting in 130 grants totalling over £120,000.

Applicants are required to complete a form when applying for a grant (see below). All applications are treated in strict confidence.
