The Nursery at Longden offers a caring place for children to start on their learning adventure in a nurturing environment. Set in a wonderful part of rural Shropshire, yet only 5 miles from Shrewsbury, the nursery includes plenty of outdoor space, a kitchen garden, mud kitchen, music, PE and daily planned adult led activities for literacy, numeracy and creativity, as well as access to the whole school grounds, wild area, hall and dining room. The Nursery is based in a modern, well equipped building.
Our Nursery works closely with our Reception Class and our Deputy Headteacher, who is the Early Years Foundation Stage Leader. This ensures that nursery children feel prepared, welcomed and already part of our school when it is time to move into main school at the end of their time in Nursery.
Our Ethos
Longden Nursery seek to create an environment that is engaging, responsive and stimulating and caring; this encourages and nurtures a child’s natural curiosity and ability, developing active and creative minds. Empowering each child to realise their full potential to become a unique independent individual is achieved through a sense of understanding, building self esteem and positive learning experiences and relationships.
Testimonials
Longden Nursery is a wonderful setting and an asset to our local community. The fantastic team at Longden provide a caring, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children play and learn about the world around them through wide-ranging, engaging activities. Highlights include the regular cookery sessions and the fantastic outdoor learning area. The children also get to take part in PE activities in the school hall, which provides a useful experience of ‘big’ school’.
Longden Nursery is simply wonderful. Both of my boys have absolutely loved it. The team are fabulous, they make the children feel special the moment they arrive, and I know they will be wonderfully looked after and encouraged. They do so many activities and gain so much confidence and self-belief. It’s a very special place.
I cannot recommend Longden Nursery enough. My son runs in every morning with a huge smile on his face and is met with such warmth from the staff. The nursery itself has such a lovely, happy atmosphere. We love how much fresh air our son has playing outside and exploring in the woods next to the nursery and the children often go on walks in the local countryside.
The staff work so hard to make everyday fun and carefully match activities and resources to the interests of the children. Parents are well informed about what the children have been doing through daily photos on ClassDojo. I feel so lucky we found Longden Nursery and wouldn’t want to send my children anywhere else.
We’ve been to so many lovely events in the nursery itself (leaving celebrations, birthdays and bake sales) and in the wider school (sharing assemblies, sports days). There is an amazing sense of community, and this will no doubt help the transition to ‘big school’ when the time arrives… Particularly, as the children get to spend time in the main school building for lunches, assemblies and sports lessons.
